Faith did not like green beans...at all. I did my best but the girl was tight lipped and no amount of "airplane" with the spoon or enticing her with other things she enjoys putting in her mouth would work. It was green, it was gross...( and did I mention homemade :)
Check out the faces of Faith when trying green beans

Mom what did you just give me???

Geez seriously what is this stuff?

I'll just spit it all out! That was gross!
So a few days later I thought I would try applesauce. I get the whole green bean thing being gross I really do, the only time I like green beans is when they are in a casserole :)

Happily opening her mouth for applesauce!
And also as I said I made the food! I am so thankful for all the encouragement in bloggy land to make Faith's baby food. It was so easy! And I felt so great doing something great for her! There is definitely a learning curve ( I thought I made a lot but really only made 6 ice cubes worth LOL) but I totally look forward to learning and figuring it all out!
So here is my first baby food making experience

First I steamed the food...I tried saving time and steaming the green beans in one thing and the apples in the other section...I realize this wasn't right when the apples smelled like green beans...but maybe that's a good thing. Lesson learned though don't mix in the steamer :)

And this is the processor I bought with gift cards from Macy's. This was the #1 recommended one of the whol.esome baby food website. I LOVED IT! Totally recommend and I got it on sale for $49.99 but again gift cards so nothing!

Then I put in the steamed green beans added a little water ( not from the steamer because I realized the whole mixing apples and green beans thing after the fact) and....

Voila! Baby food! Looks delicious! I'm taking orders if your hungry ;)

And this was all it made! LOL I was slightly disappointed but knew it was all part of the learning process. This is obviously just a regular ice cube tray and I'm not loving it. The cubes don't really pop out quite as easily as I had hoped BUT next time when I make a lot more I will pop them all our at the same time and store in the ziplocks. This time I just left them in the ice cube trays and popped out one at a time as I needed.

Next I tried the apples. And yes the skin is on them. This I also realized after the fact BUT did you know that the skin off a steamed apple literally peels right off like a banana peel? It was so much easier than peeling the uncooked hard apple would have been! So my mistake actually worked to my advantage.
I don't have any more pictures of my final product but the apple sauce came out great. I actually just did one small apple. It was a total testing it out kinda day and I learned that its easy and fun and I really wanna do it for Faith! I'm so thankful for all the awesome tips and encouragement!

To this day, Shelby is not a fan of green beans.
Good job on making all her food!
You go Super Mom!!! To funny about the green beans! :) Love the picture!
love the green bean face! im so glad you decided to make the baby food. it is one of my favorite memories from when z was younger!
I'm glad you decided to make your own baby food. I think it's so fun to do and like you said it's a learning process.
Just a little tip on how to get the food out of the ice cube trays. I to had a hard time at first... then I put my thinking cap on and came up with a brilliant idea... ha. I just flip the ice cube tray over and run the bottom side under really hot water. Then you just pop them out like ice cubes. It seriously works and you get every little bit off of the tray when you do it this way.
Hope that helps... and good luck with the rest of your baby food making career :)
Enjoyed Faith's comments ref the green beans. Guess that rules out her being a vegan!Good, she can be a "fruititarian."
She is so cute, I love her little facial expressions in those pictures. So cute.
I'm so impressed with you. Way to make your own food. Its probably so much better for her and healthy.
Another food tip: If you feel like you've "ruined" the food by leaving skins on, or the peas "just not blending until smooth", save it anyways. In a few short months she'll be ready to take on more textures and those lumpy vegetables won't be a waste after all. Just make sure to date your zip lock bag in the freezer so you don't save them past the proper storage expiration.
Good luck!
