My mom and I had been talking for a while about taking a mini vacation and taking the kids to Sea World. So during Spring Break my mom was off from work so we decided that would be the perfect time to go!
Wednesday we left around noon and had a super easy drive up to San Diego. We stopped at our favorite taco shack and it was a great start to our trip! We made it to SD in great time, then as we reached our destination every single route to our hotel was detoured or blocked off! It took over 30 minutes just driving around trying to find a way in! I finally asked a construction worker and they let us through but it was a super frustrating end to our ride!
We went to the local mall to eat that night and settled into bed early for a fun day at Sea World on Thursday.
Thursday was quite an adventure! Let me just say taking kids to theme parks is an adventure. Sure it is full of fun amazing memories and moments but in general I do think its best to wait til they are a little older and can enjoy it. Not only did Winni have a melt down of epic proportions ( over I don't even know what) I watched every other kid and parent go through it as well, the frustration, the arguing the shortness it was stressful! Did we have a great time...certainly, but in general I'm thinking we may wait a while longer to take the kids to Disneyland, or at least just take Winni initially until Tyson is older...anyays off my soap box.
So we woke up Thursday morning to poop. Literally...The second Winni woke up she starting crying and said " Change my diaper" which she never does and as she got up there was poop all over her, her back, her pj's, her hair, the bed and not just a little of it. I knew she had to have some sort of tummy bug because it was def not normal. So we threw her in the bath got ready and headed to Sea World.
We had a good morning. Winni was a little tired and crabby from not sleeping 12 hrs the night before and she kept telling me " Mama I have a belly ache" so she wasn't really herself but we did have some good moments inbetween the whining.
First view of a dolphin
Then we went and saw the dolphin show and after wards the shamu show.
Its been about 6-7 years since I have been to Sea World and I was pretty disappointed in the shows this time around. A lot less tricks and specially the dolphin show seemed to just be a lot of dancing going on. Pretty bummed but whatever.
One thing that has changed for the better is the new Elmo play world! An awesome play area with a few rides and a great play structure that Winni just loved!
This was her first ride " the tea cups"! She loved it initially but as the g-force starting to pull her she wasn't quite as excited :)
After our ride we spent some time on the play structure
Winni climbed a ton of these cargo nets all by herself! I was so proud!
Then we went to check out the penguins
and to prove Tyson was there :)
Tyson was literally the best baby ever the 3 days we were there. Sweet little man didn't cry once and even though he will remember nothing I am so glad my little man was there!
This was kinda where our meltdown happen. I don't know if it was cuz I wouldn't carry her or what but Winni had quite a crazy moment. I even sat her in timeout and an employee went over to help her because this poor little girl was in the corner screaming " Maaaaaaamaaaaaaaa" Oh boy was it fun! ( Sarcasm) But I was proud of myself, I tried hard to stay calm and not react the way I wanted to and I think I did an OK job handling it. I also realized how much she needed to eat and probably needed some sugar in her so we got some ice cream and she cheered right up and I could tell she felt a lot better. But before she did she gave me her " I don't wanna pose for you" look.

We checked out thr turtles which Winni tells me were her favorite
And then my sweet Tyson fell asleep while waiting for the 4-D Elmo show
After the pretty cool Elmo 4-D show, in which Winni refused to wear her glasses but enjoyed it anyways we sat down for a little break!
Then we checked out the Sea Lion show which in my opinion was by far the best of the day!
And went to the tide pool to touch some star fish
Then we went back to Rocky Point to try and touch a dolphin. It was pretty crowded and we finally found a spot along the wall but when the dolphin trainer brought the dolphin by to pet it Winni got a little shy and only reached for the dolphin once it was too late :) Figures but she still thought it was pretty awesome to see a dolphin up that close.
After spending some time with the dolphins we saw one of those penny machines and Winni simply loved it! So we took some time to change and feed Tyson while she just cranked away on that machine. I finally gave her 51 cents to make a penny and lemme tell ya may have been the best 51 cents I spent that trip! She LOVED it!

We had pretty much done everything we wanted to do at this point so we figured we would go back to Elmo's world and just play for an hour or so.
And we even got to enjoy another ride and this one Winni LOVED!

The biggest shock of the day for me was this photo. Winni loves characters from afar...very far so when I asked her if she wanted to go see Elmo and she said yes I knew she would chicken out once it was our turn. I even told my mom " If she doesn;t want to, don't force her I will just get a picture with Tyson" and lo and behold the girl ran right up to Elmo into his arms and kept saying " Elmo tickle me" irony is I don't think she even knows what a tickle me Elmo is but apparently his fur was tickling her. The professinal photographer got an awesome picture I will have to upload soon but this was the best from my camera.
I absolutely LOVE her smile in this picture! Such a great moment!
After seeing Elmo it was beyond time to go back to the hotel so one last picture...
and our day at Sea World was through!
Both babies were asleep within 10 minutes of being in the car and we went back to the hotel, ordered some food to eat in our room and went to bed!
It was a wonderful yet incredibly exhausting day, full of wonderful memories I will never forget!

Wow, I am exhausted just reading about it all, lol! We could never do that day - our kids just need their naps and they need them in THEIR beds, lol. It's tough because we always feel chained to our house! I agree with you, though - theme parks might be best when they're older. I don't know if I have the nerves for a long day with infants/toddlers in a place like that, lol! But, it looks like so much fun and Winni's smile is just priceless:). She will have wonderful memories and so will you!
This was a great post Heather !!!!
Loved all the pictures...Aunt Sue
I cant wait to one day take Morgan to Sea World-looks like so much fun!
