Doctors Appointment

So today was my first day back to my RE and it was great to be back. And I mean that in the best way. If I can't get pregnant on my own I am sure glad there is my RE to help!

So my ovaries looked great! No cysts what so ever, which was a major concern since I practically stopped treatment mid cycle last month. This month I will be doing 5 days of 100mg of Clomid starting tomorrow, followed by 3 days of Menopur ( two 75ml each day) along with Metformin. I have heard so many women raving about Metformin so I asked my doctor and he basically said it can't hurt and if I wanted it he would go ahead and write the prescription up.

My next appointment is February 18th to check my follicles and I can't wait! I am just hoping and praying everything will be great on the 18th and we can schedule the IUI shortly after and 1st time will be a charm :)

Anyone have any advice on the Metformin? They did tell me to start with 1 pill and slowly work my way up to the 3 a day because of the stomach problems it can bring. Just curious of others expirience!

I wish I could help but I have never even heard of Metformin...what I am curious about is why you are doing clomid then menopur injections? I have never heard of mixing them...I was intrigued...

I know about Metformin through research I did for an article on gestational diabetes. You probably already know this, but insulin resistance can be a problem in women with PCOS, and metformin helps with that. How that helps fertility, I'm not sure, but I know there's a link and am keeping my fingers crossed for you!

Yay for the Metformin!!! The PCOS causes you not to process sugar correctly. This some how makes you not ovulate properly. I told you before this is the ONLY thing I used and lost weight and got pregnant within months.

My advice-you HAVE to watch your diet with it. My doc said if you don't you will know it. You may also get the poops but it will go away I promise. My doc kept me on it through out my pregnancy to help avoid Gest. Diabetes. PCOS increases your chance of getting that while pregnant. If you have any other questions I'm here!

Hey-
Yeah for getting Met and for a good aptmt. Your RE sounds great. I took MET and am apparently I'm the exception to the rule. I had no diarhea (sp) which apparently is unheard of. I was told to take 1 pill for a week and then up to 2 and then up to 3 by week 3. I was up to 3 pilss by the end of week 1. Eat them after or 3/4 of the way through a meal. and apparently the extended realease tabs have less side effects. I had those. You may possibly lose a little wt. The extended release pills have less weight loss but I still think it helped me lose about 2 lbs. Other women on the normal one lose more but I didn't have much to lose. Best to you. I can't wait to hear about your follies on the 18th. Hopefully we'll both get great news next week. My aptmt and US is on the 19th. :)
Thinking of you!

Sorry, I have no advice about PCOS. Good luck with your cycle.

Saw your comment on Stirrup Queens and just wanted to let you know that although octomom is nuts, she is correct about ectopic pregnancies. They do happen with IVF. In fact, at a slightly higher rate than in non-assisted pregnancies. The embryos can go up into the fallopian tubes from the uterus.

Met is really no big deal. I was on it the whole time we were TTC. Just start slow like you said and work your way up and you should be fine. Also, try taking it at night.
