I am a baby making food machine today! And as I was on whole.some.babyfood website I looked up all I Had bought to make sure I was doing everything right and came across a bunch of info on carrots and nitrates....
Can anyone ( ASAP hopefully) share their experience about making carrots for baby food? Did you do it? Did you worry about nitrates? How do I avoid them?
Now I am scared to make the 2 lbs bag I bought because I read about nitrates! Help Please!

I think I've heard that you shouldn't feed a baby (under a year?) real carrots, but carrots in the jar are fine. Once they hit a certain age it's okay. Sorry I'm not being specific. This is just what I remember.
I made them and my baby is fine. Just make sure not to blend them in the water you are using for steaming. If you need liquid use fresh water or formula.
Hey Girl! I have always read not to introduce them to carrots because of Nitrates till 7 - 8 months..However our doctor told us if we was going to make them for Mist to steam them..sorry I don't have much info:(
wish I could help but I used that site too and chose not to use carrots. It's the one item I bought. Sorry

This is a great site I found! Hope it helps you!
Hey, I actually just made a batch and have a blog scheduled to post about it tomorrow. I'm not a worrier and I think that as long as you watch what you put in them that you will be fine. (but that's totally just me). I boiled mine so that some of the nitrates were taken out and then I mixed them with Unsweetened applesauce to make it more of a liquid. Kyah really seemed to LOVE them and I think they are a good thing to have in their diet. Before I made mine at home I bought him organic carrots and they were just carrots and water so I'm not sure they could have done anything else.
